Gemstone leather bracelet

Gemstone leather bracelet

I made my first leather and gemstone bracelet today! I was surprised how easy it was….once I had all the right tools..
Leather cord: 21″
28 gauge needle
Industrial rug making thread: 12′
6mm amethyst glass faceted beads

I found it especially helpful to use binder clips to hold the top AND bottom of the leather while working.

Thanks Pinterest! :)

Bespoken Art; Art Made From Your Voice

I can appreciate various types of mixed media, but recently I stumbled onto a great site, Bespoken Art. Basically, you record yourself saying something and this company immortalizes it by printing the audio sounds file on a canvas. I really want one, I just need to figure out what to say!

iOS 5 Rant

iOS 5 Rant

Well I’ve got to hand it to Apple, once again they’ve delivered ‘sexy’ right to you in the form of an update. This one of course being the daddy of all updates because, finally, the hypothetical [and quite literal] umbilical cord has been cut! No more having to plug your phone/pad in every time you need to install an update, or backup your pictures, phone numbers, apps and the like. This all being said, I have a couple of items I’d strongly suggest Apple address in the IOS 5.0.1 update:

Add custom address to Reminders

Determining Location pic

It can be assign based on arrival or departure

I am loving the new reminders feature. I live out of my calendar, so having the reminders app to compliment it is great. What really makes it a key tool is that you can not just set your reminder to go off at a specific time, but a specific location! The catch is, you already have to be at that location to set it…. Now I’ve seen the example advertised, ‘remind yourself you need to buy milk, and your device can notify you when you pass the grocery store’. Not entirely true…. You’d actually have to be at the grocery store to determine it’s location.. and instead of messing with your iDevice, why not just buy the milk…

This tool would be so much more useful if it was integrated with Maps, so you could search for a place, or location. It would be sweet too if you could just enter an address, then Maps verified it.

Notifications Center

I actually think this is my favorite new feature, at least this week. One quick swipe down and I have an overview of everything I want to know. I’m a habitual email-checker and having the opportunity to take a quick glance without actually entering Mail is fantastic. In addition to constantly checking my email, I tend to open an email that I don’t have the intentions of reading through at that moment, so I reset it back to Unread. In doing this I can highlight emails that I feel are worth going back to. The trouble with the Notification Center is that even after marking an email back to Unread, it’s not considered a new email. If my Notification Center is supposed to tell me what unread messaged I have, I think it should anything truly new, plus any you’ve set back to Unread.

Notice after setting a 'read' back back to 'unread, Mail says I have two emails

One small thing, but worth mentioning, deleting of single photos in Photostream would be good. I know I’m prone to the occasional blurry picture, or unnecessary duplicates. Who wants all that showing up on your screensaver (should you assign it to be your photostream).

So other than that, and that Apple took away gestures for iPad (1) users, the iOS 5 update is pretty much awesome. However, we all know Apple can do better… come on 5.0.1!

What are your thoughts on the new update?

iPhone 4s is here! Are you standing in line?

iPhone 4s is here! Are you standing in line?

I made the decision as the dates were being announced that this year I would NOT stand in line…. I’m so happy I decided not to because this past weekend I decided to double-check my eligibility and it turns out that this girl can’t even get the new iPhone (at the $199 price) until November 25th.

It turns out that At&t has not updated people’s' eligibility to align with the release date of the phone. The major reason I can think of doing this is to help avoid the masses from bombarding the stores and internet to order their phone, then have to deal with shortages. So, I have to wait… oh well I guess. As I look out the window at the very damp, rainy weather, I’m glad to be inside in dry clothes and not huddled in with all my new geeked-out friends.

I’ll have to face my crowd battle in November which just happens to also be Black Friday, ugh.

A Big Thank You!

A Big Thank You!

Thanks again to everyone who helped my team raise $1,760.00 for the Dempsey Challenge! It turned out to be a beautiful day for the race and had an amazing turnout. My mom was pumped to find out that she even received a special Dempsey Challenge, LL Bean, fleece vest because she raised so much!

We’ve already created a new team for next year, to check out this years’ page, click here!

The 2011 Dempsey Challenge!

The 2011 Dempsey Challenge!

I’m raising money for the Dempsey Center located in Lewiston, Maine. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a Center backed by Patrick Dempsey – yes, Dr. McDreamy – and it’s been helping thousands of people who are experiencing the effects of Cancer and cancer treatments. This year the Challenge is the weekend of October 8th & 9th. There’s a 5k walk/run, a 10k run, and 3 levels of bike races (25, 50 & 100 miles). Some close friends and family members of mine have come together to create a group, Breast Friends for a Cure. The group is focused on our center member, my mom, who’s been recently diagnosed with breast cancer. If you would like to donate to our group please go here: http://dempseychallenge2011.kintera.org/heathershuman.

All proceeds go directly to the Dempsey Center. Thank so much for all of you that can donate and thanks to everyone for taking the time to read this!
